Hidalgo Wins Individual SCC Crown, Cheshire Girls' Golf Takes Third Overall


On Thursday at Black Hawk Country Club in Stratford, Cheshire High School girls’ golf took third place (404) in the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship. Lauralton Hall (388) and Amity (394) finished in the top-two spots.

For CHS, senior captain Sydney Hidalgo shot an 85 to win the title by a stroke. She received SCC Golfer of the Year and Most Outstanding Golfer of the tournament.

Hidalgo joins her older sister as a SCC individual champion. In 2021, Mia Hidalgo earned a share of the title.

In posting a 92 on Thursday, junior Sophia DelRosso joined Hidalgo on the All-SCC Team.

Sophomore Olivia Beach tallied a 104. Freshman Piper Dooling (123) and sophomore Haley Hannan (124) rounded out Cheshire’s lineup.

On June 7, CHS heads to Berlin’s Timberlin Golf Course for the Division I Championship at 8:30 a.m.

Friday’s state tournament schedule:

Softball (sixth seed, 18-6)

For the Class LL quarterfinals, the Rams visit Newtown (third seed, 22-2) to play at 4:15 p.m.

Girls’ Lacrosse (seventh seed, 16-3)

Winners of seven straight games, Cheshire travels to face New Canaan (second seed, 16-3) in the Class L quarterfinals at 5 p.m.

Boys’ Volleyball (sixth seed, 19-4)

CHS carries a six-match win streak into the Class M quarterfinals, visiting Rockville (third seed, 18-3) to compete at 6 p.m.
