Cheshire Swimmers Finish Year In The State Open


On Sunday, Cheshire High School girls’ swim and dive ended the season with a seventh-place finish (247 points) in the State Open final at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford. Sophomore Julia Barto placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.60) and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke (58.94), while junior Avery Potyrala earned seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.40) and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.43).

For relays, Barto and Potyrala teamed with freshman Carly Cahill to take fourth in the 400-yard freestyle (3:35.71) and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.71). Junior Julianna Tyler and senior Hannah Merritt completed those respective teams.

Tyler nabbed ninth in the 200-yard IM (2:08.96) and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (57.85). She also combined with senior co-captains Gabby Sokolik and Kaitlyn Grove and Merritt to finish 14th in the 200-yard medley relay (1:53.98).

The Rams will graduate Sokolik, Grove, Merritt, Grace Cox, Zoe Goodrich, Ashley Jeon, and Mantra Narayanan.
