On Wednesday, Cheshire High School skiers competed in their fourth race at Mount Southington. CHS boys (301.18) beat Amity (326.2) and Danbury (332.4), but fell to Darien (291.25).
Sophomore Jeremy Bobruff (48.52), senior Nicholas Lockwood (48.82), and senior co-captain Lorenzo Pepe (48.89) finished under 50 seconds. Junior Nicholas Fortunato (50.74), sophomore Tyler Kochol (51.62), and freshman Jack Lengyel (52.59) also scored for the boys’ squad.
Due to not having at least six racers complete two runs in the meet, Cheshire girls didn’t score as a team, but five runners still placed individually. Senior co-captain Julia DePalma clocked a score of 52.44 to lead the Rams for the fourth time this year.
From the junior class, co-captain Olivia Kochol (54.38), Isabella Salsman (57.41), Elizabeth Ingerson (58.13), and Erin Esposito (59.64) followed DePalma.
On March 10, Cheshire races in the regular-season finale at 5 p.m.
Girls’ Ice Hockey (4-1-1)
Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op extended their unbeaten to five games, winning 5-2 over Jonathan Law/Notre Dame-Fairfield/Foran/Weston/Pomperaug Co-Op (2-2-1) at Milford Ice Pavilion. For the second game in a row, the Blades raced out to a 3-0 lead and went on to take a 1-0-1 rivalry lead in the season series.
From Cheshire, junior Avery DePodesta (two assists), sophomore Izzy Guillotte (goal), and freshman goalkeeper Ginny Curello (25 saves) shined on offense and defense.
For Amity, senior Caroline Cadelina scored two goals, while sophomore Sammy Drane (assist) and junior Mia Dow also scored. Senior captain Olivea Kosh added an assist.
On Saturday, the Blades host West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy Co-Op (5-0) at Louis Astorino Ice Arena in Hamden. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
In winning 4-1 in their opener on Feb. 16, WH/SHA represents the only team to have beaten the Blades this winter.
