Cheshire Boys' Volleyball Earns Seventh Straight Sweep On Wednesday, Golf Teams Split In Madison

On Wednesday, Cheshire High School boys’ volleyball (8-2) extended their sweep streak to seven matches, winning 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-19) at Newtown (7-3). Senior co-captain Jeremy Alliger tied his personal-high kill total with 13.

Junior Tim Nugent compiled 28 assists and four digs, while senior Shea Cronin led the Rams with eight digs.

Seniors Thor Novicelli (two blocks), Samson Portal (four digs), and Collin Crowe all had six kills. Crowe earned a career-best total.

On Friday, the Rams travel to Middletown to play Xavier (2-4) at 5 p.m.

Golf (Girls, 4-0; Boys, 6-2)

Cheshire teams competed against host Daniel Hand at Madison Country Club. CHS girls improved to 4-0 with a 179-226 victory. For the third straight match, sophomore Sydney Hidalgo secured medalist (40).

Junior Mia Hidalgo (42), senior captain Bella DelRosso (48), and freshman Sophia DelRosso (49) also scored for the Rams. Senior Molly DeMeo posted a 50 and junior Mackenzie Corcoran tallied a 55.

Despite a season-low score (38) from junior Nick Fortunato, CHS boys fell 145-168 to unbeaten Hand (8-0). Sophomore AJ DePaolo (42), freshman Jack Brewster (43), and junior Riley Brabant (45) were separated by just three strokes.

The Rams return to action on Thursday. The boys’ team visits Racebrook Country Club to face host Notre Dame-West Haven (6-2) at 2:45 p.m.

At Southington Country Club, Cheshire girls host St. Paul Catholic at 3 p.m.

Baseball (2-9)

The Rams visit undefeated Daniel Hand (11-0) to play at 3:45 p.m. On April 24, Hand picked up a 12-3 victory at CHS.

Girls’ Tennis (3-6)

Cheshire heads to Milford for a rematch with Foran (0-10) at 3:45 p.m. Last Saturday, Cheshire earned a 6-1 victory.

Girls’ Lacrosse (8-2)

The Rams travel to play Glastonbury (5-1) at 4:15 p.m.
