CHS Ice Hockey Falls To Branford On Wednesday

On Wednesday, Cheshire High School ice hockey (4-2) fell 3-0 to host Branford (6-1) at Northford Ice Pavilion. The defending Division II state champions, Branford outshot the Rams 47-11, but senior goalkeeper/co-captain Nick Maringola (44 saves) and the Rams held them scoreless in the first period.

The Hornets snapped the stalemate on a goal by senior Maximus Manware with 6:16 left in the second period. Senior Spencer Engstrom picked up an assist.

In the third, Engstrom (12:30) and senior Zachary Jones (2:20) added goals for Branford. Senior Blake Kustra assisted Jones.

Branford junior goalkeeper Jared Yakimoff had 11 saves.

On Saturday, the Rams return to Wesleyan University to host East Catholic (3-4) at 8:15 p.m.

Thursday’s varsity schedule:

Boys’ Swim and Dive (3-0)

The Rams travel to North Haven’s Walter J. Gawrych Community Pool to face host North Haven/East Haven/North Branford/Guilford Co-Op at 4 p.m.
