In the Southern Connecticut Conference semifinals on May 24, Cheshire High School boys’ volleyball (top seed, 17-4) earned a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-19) of Amity (fourth seed, 10-11). Senior tri-captain Matt Irizarry tallied 35 assists, two aces, two kills, and a dig.
Junior Connor Hayes tied his personal-high kill total with 13, adding five digs, two blocks, and an assist. Junior tri-captain Will Allen compiled 10 kills, four digs, two aces, two blocks, and two assists.
Sophomore Matti Lilback posted 12 kills, two assists, an ace, and a block. Senior tri-captain Jason Cafourek contributed four kills, three digs, and an assist.
With their fourth consecutive win, the Rams went 3-0 against the Spartans this spring.
On Friday, Cheshire hosts Shelton (second seed, 13-6) in the final at 6 p.m. CHS beat their rival on April 21 (3-2) and May 10 (3-1).
Girls’ Golf (12-4-1)
At Southington Country Club, CHS scored 199 to sweep Daniel Hand (225) and Suffield (247). Senior captain Sydney Hidalgo finished as the medalist (39).
Junior Sophia DelRosso recorded a 44. Sophomores Olivia Beach (56), Haley Hannan (60), and Piper Dooling (63) rounded out the Rams.
For the regular-season finale on May 31 at SCC, Cheshire plays Newington at 2:45 p.m.
