On Saturday, Cheshire High School boys’ swim and dive earned a virtual split of their Senior Night at the Cheshire Community Pool. The Rams (3-1) pulled out a one-point win, 93.5-92.5, over North Haven/East Haven/North Branford/Guilford Co-Op and also came up short 93-77 against defending Southern Connecticut Conference Champion Xavier.
Senior tri-captains Justin Finkel and Harrison Hua and junior Anmol Sapru all won two events against both teams. In freestyle, Hua was victorious in the 50-yard race (22.86) and Finkel captured the 500-yard swim (4:43.79). Sapru was an individual winner in the 100-yard butterfly (55.23).
Finkel, Hua, and Sapru also teamed with senior Martin Adlianitski to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.99). Sophomore Silas Wang added a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.16).
Against North Haven Co-Op, Finkel (200-yard freestyle, 1:49.32) and junior Wes Johnson (100-yard backstroke, 57.65) added victories. Hua also won the 100-yard freestyle (49.81) in the meet vs. Xavier.
For Senior Night, Cheshire honored tri-captain Noah Duncan, Finkel, Hua, Adlianitski, Aaron Fernandes, Nate Rearick, Aayush Sahasrabudhe, and Chris Scoffone before the meet.
This Tuesday at CCP, Cheshire has another virtual meet against Amity at 3 p.m.
Girls’ Ice Hockey (2-1-1)
Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op battled to earn a 3-2 victory over Hamden/Wilbur Cross/Lyman Hall/O'Brien Tech Co-Op (0-7) at Louis Astorino Ice Arena in Hamden.
In the first period, Hamden Co-Op went up 1-0, but the Connecticut Blades took a 2-1 lead on goals by Amity junior Mia Dow and Cheshire junior Avery DePodesta in the second.
Hamden Co-Op tied the game during the second, but in the third period, North Haven senior Kelsey McCarthy scored the game-winner with 1:09 remaining.
Along with their goals, DePodesta and McCarthy tallied assists. Amity senior Caroline Cadelina collected two assists and Amity junior goalkeeper Jade Krukar compiled 19 saves.
On Sunday at Northford Ice Pavilion, the Blades face Daniel Hand/Coginchaug/Valley/Old Lyme Co-Op at 6:50 p.m.
