CHS Boys' Swim And Dive Beats Hamden On Tuesday, Stays Unbeaten At 5-0

On Tuesday, Cheshire High School boys’ swim and dive moved to 5-0 with a 91-81 victory over Hamden at the Cheshire Community Pool. The Rams took first place in 11 of 12 events. 

Senior tri-captain Sam Hanke and sophomore Vincent Zhu both captured four events. Individually, Hanke was the top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle (23.62) and 100-yard backstroke (55.07), while Zhu claimed the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.75) and 100-yard freestyle (52.92). Hanke and Zhu also teamed with sophomore Anmol Sapru and senior tri-captain Nick Brunetti to win the 200-yard medley (1:44.24) and 200-yard freestyle (1:39.05) relays.

Junior Noah Duncan recorded a personal record (234.15) to win the one-meter dive and take over 10th place all-time for six dives in Cheshire history. Duncan additionally made his swim debut in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.

Junior Harrison Hua won the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.74) and combined with freshman Silas Wang, junior Hayden Curello, and freshman Alex Fang on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:34.31). Fang (200-yard freestyle, 2:00.14) and Wang (100-yard breaststroke, 1:05.22) also earned their first individual victories.

In a tight finish, Curello took runner-up (56.76) by .38 in the 100-yard butterfly. Cheshire’s diving contingent all recorded their best scores.

On Saturday, the Rams will travel for the program’s first meeting with Greenwich. Start time is currently scheduled for 2 p.m.

Wednesday’s varsity schedule:

Ice Hockey (5-3)

Cheshire visits Northford Ice Pavilion to face host North Branford (0-4-1) at 3:50 p.m.

Wrestling (1-4)

For the home opener, CHS hosts Branford and Morgan at 5 p.m.

Girls’ Basketball (2-6, 0-2 in Quinnipiac Division)

Cheshire travels to Milford to face Lauralton Hall (0-9, 0-1) at 6:15 p.m.

Boys’ Basketball (1-5, 0-2 in Oronoque Division)

The Rams visit Masuk (6-1) at 7 p.m.
