CHS Boys' Soccer Rallies At The End To Tie Daniel Hand

On Monday, Cheshire High School boys’ soccer (8-4-2) made a late push to earn a 1-1 tie against Daniel Hand (12-1-3).

The Tigers held a 1-0 lead in the final minute, but the Rams capitalized on a free kick. After junior Samir Dishnica sent the ball into a crowd, junior Colin Brown netted the tying goal in a scramble.

Hand led in shots, but Rams kept them scoreless in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Andres Diosa made a personal-high six saves, including a breakaway deflection and a couple catches off corner kicks.

Cheshire had a chance to go ahead in the second half, however a shot by senior Noah Gougsa went over the net with 33:30 remaining.

Hand finally snapped the stalemate with 23:49 left. Diosa saved a shot from the left side, but Hand senior Sam Wheeler scored on the rebound.

In rallying to get the draw, CHS avenged a 5-3 loss on Sept. 30 and finished the regular season on a six-game undefeated streak. Defensively, seniors Zack Brown and Ethan Lin, Brown, and juniors Muluken Marchand and Jack Markarian have helped Diosa post four shutouts in that run.

While having earned a share of the Quinnipiac Division crown (7-1) with Guilford, the Rams are waiting to see if they’ve made the Southern Connecticut Conference Tournament.
