Due to the uptick in Covid cases and recent guidelines set by the State of Connecticut, all indoor programs scheduled for the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave., have been canceled until further notice.

Demystifying Hearing Loss: Hearing Care Is Health Care – Friday, Dec. 4, at 10:30 a.m. Join a Zoom discussion on warning signs of hearing changes, hearing loss and dementia link. Review hearing tests and the hearing aid evaluation process, and effective communication strategies. Presented by Masonicare Hearing Center. Reflections Café – Mondays, Dec. 7 and 21, Jan. 11 and 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. This virtual café is a social gathering place for persons with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, early Alzheimer’s or other dementia, along with their family and friends, to share an hour of exploring positive topics such as cooking, art, music, poetry, movies, show & tell, plus more! The group, led by Andrea Sidoruk, MSW intern, meets twice per month to make connections, have fun and talk, make new friends, share stories, including any feelings about the challenges of living with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, early Alzheimer’s or other dementia from the comfort and safety of your own home or comfortable place. Seniors 4 Seniors Intergenerational Book Club – Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. Join local senior citizens and high school students via Zoom to discuss “The Book of Two Ways,” a novel by Jodi Picoult. To register, call (203) 272-8286 or email lgravel@cheshirect.org.

Grab & Go Lunch and a Holiday Concert with Sal via Zoom – Monday, Dec. 14. Lunch pickup starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Cheshire Senior Center. Holiday Concert with Sal via Zoom begins at 1:30 p.m. Registration by Dec. 4 is required to participate in the Grab & Go Lunch; additional details will be given at time of registration. How Could Covid-19 Change My Estate Plan – Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. Via Zoom, discuss three rules to successful estate planning and how to plan using legal tools for health care decisions to meet your goals. The Cheshire Sherlock Holmes Society – Thursday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. Read the short story, “The Adventure of the Three Garridebs” by Arthur Conan Doyle for discussion. via Zoom.  To attend, contact Andy Tranquilli at tranquilli@hotmail.com. New members and guests are always welcome. 

Community Yoga Online for the Food Pantry – Friday, Dec. 18, at 1:15 p.m. Join Stefanie online via Zoom for Gentle Flow Yoga, with chair modifications available, to benefit the Cheshire Community Food Pantry. Jukebox Holiday Bingo – Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. Via Zoom, play the same Bingo game, just with a musical twist! Call (203) 272-8286 or email lgravel@cheshirect.org to register and for Bingo kit distribution.

Weekly Trail Walks – Join members of the Local Senior Community for a walk on the Farmington Trail in Cheshire or the Quinnipiac Trail in South Meriden. Walking is a wonderful way for older adults to stay physically and mentally active. For more information, call Marge at (203) 272-3316.

 

Transportation Services

The Cheshire Senior Center continues to offer transportation for Cheshire medical appointments, grocery shopping and pharmacy visits, and also to out-of-town medical appointments scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the following schedule:

Monday – Meriden

Tuesday – North Haven and Hamden

Wednesday – Wallingford

Friday – Southington

Please call for availability within one week of the appointment.

Dial-A-Ride is available on Fridays for the Waterbury area
