October has become the month of the scarecrow here in Cheshire as, for the second consecutive year, the community held its own Scarecrow Challenge.

Residents and businesses alike were asked to put up a scarecrow or scarecrows and get as creative as possible with the scene. According to organizers, approximately  99 households and businesses participated this year.

Below are the winners, announced on Sunday, Oct. 24, during a ceremony held in front of Cheshire Town Hall.

The yearly activity is sponsored by Artsplace, the Cheshire Public Library, the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Best Use of Materials – “Sunny the Owl” (Red Owl)

            2nd Place – “Garden Fairy” (Cheshire Garden Club)

Best Halloween Theme — “The Pizza Man” (Pop’s Pizza)

            2nd Place – “Juliette” (“Ghoul” Scout Troop 60082)

Most Artistic – “Paint & Sip” (Mixville Road)

            2nd Place – “Sea Captain”

Most Resembles a Famous Person or Character – “Elvis”

            2nd Place – “Johnny Appleseed” (Suburban Garden Club)

Most Creative – “Foxy on Timberlane”

            2nd Place – “Richard Chevrolet”

Best Business Marketing – “East Coast Mechanical”
