For more than 60 years, the Suburban Garden Club’s annual plant sale has offered visitors, and shoppers, an assortment of plants grown right within the community. The tradition continued on June 4 in front of First Congregational Church as more than 100 different varieties of member-grown perennials were made available for purchase, as well as a tag sale of garden and floral related items.

This year also featured a special raffle that raised funds for Ukraine relief.

The sale is the club’s primary fundraiser. Proceeds enable SGC to make a positive contribution to the community through numerous charitable and civic activities.  In addition to offering college scholarships to area students pursuing degrees in horticulture or environmental studies, club activities include planting and maintaining gardens at the Cheshire Senior Center, the Cheshire Historical Society, the Cheshire Public Library and the Yellow House Youth Center.

Proceeds are also used to conduct programs for club members and the public that focus on increasing the knowledge of and interest in gardening as well as awareness of environmental issues.
