The Civics Committee of the Cheshire Garden Club has selected the property at 406 Oak Avenue for the Residential Beauty Spot of the Month for May.
Homeowner Cindy Forlenzo is pictured with her Bernese mountain dog Hanna next to the largest of several flower beds surrounding the 1951 Cape in which Cindy has lived for 21 years.
A tall sycamore, a Japanese maple, a weeping cherry tree, and a threadleaf Japanese maple take center stage in each of the colorful island beds, with a profusion of flowering Spring bulbs providing a kaleidoscope of color throughout.
A birdbath, a bicycle, a sun dial, a wind vane, and a few animal statuaries add a whimsical touch. Different colored Darwin and Triumph tulips next to daffodils and a multitude of hyacinths are at the peak of their bloom right now. A grouping of purple grape hyacinths is beautifully set off by the bright yellow carpet sedum spreading uphill in front of the Beauty Spot sign. The entire front yard is a showstopper for any passersby who happen to be fortunate to travel along Oak Avenue.
