On Tuesday, Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball (29-10) beat host Stamford (31-6-1) 7-5 to capture the program's first Southern Division Super Regional Tournament at Cubeta Stadium. Cheshire never trailed after scoring four runs in the first inning.
Pat Downey (two RBIs and runs scored), Jay Schaff (three RBIs, walk), Dan Schock (run), and Wes Robertson all contributed two hits. Jon Koski and Ryan Pierpont added a single, walk, and a run scored. Mike Purcell also reached on a walk and single, scoring twice.
Parker Barnell (three hits, five walks, strikeout) pitched into the seventh inning and picked up the victory. Christian Colp (hit, four walks, two strikeouts) recorded the save in relief.
Cheshire carries a five-game win streak into their first state finals. The best two out of three series starts on Friday (6:30 p.m.) at Cubeta Stadium.
