On Saturday, Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball (27-10) came from behind to beat host Stamford (29-5-1) 5-4 in 10 innings at Cubeta Stadium. Stamford scored the first three runs and took a 3-1 advantage into the ninth inning before Cheshire staged a late rally in their Super Regionals opener. First baseman Mike Purcell (single, walk) hammered a two-out, two-run double to tie the game 3-3.
Cheshire scored two more runs in the 10th. Catcher Wes Robertson (walk) brought in the winning run with his second RBI single.
Dan Schock (run scored) and Joey Anderson (three runs scored, hit by pitch) also had two hits. Jon Koski (hit by pitch) contributed a single. Pat Downey also reached on a hit by pitch.
PJ Watson (seven hits, four strikeouts, two walks) worked the first eight innings. Christian Colp (win) pitched the last two innings, allowing three hits.
Stamford's Kevin Stone had three hits and three RBIs. In the first eight innings, Jalen Brown pitched a four-hitter. Shawn Urbano took the loss.
The team returns to the facility on Sunday to play defending champion Branford at 3:30 p.m. Branford defeated Berlin 7-1 on Saturday.
