Rams Field Hockey Places Third In 18-U Nutmeg State Games

Cheshire Rams field hockey (4-1) closed Saturday's Nutmeg State Games 18-U High School Tournament with four straight wins, taking third place at Clem Lemire Recreation Complex in Newington. In the consolation game, they defeated Immaculate 3-2. Vitale converted a pass from Erica Stauffer to record the winning goal.
After losing to Enfield 2-0, Cheshire posted wins over Danbury (5-0), Hamden (5-0), and Bethel (3-2) to end pool play. Goalkeeper Katie Caldwell posted two shutouts for Coach Michelle Federico, a graduated Cheshire High School co-captain.
Scoring breakdown: Vitale (five goals), Nicole Salamone (three goals, assist), Stauffer (two, five), Meaghan Carroll (two, one), Emma Gaudio (two goals), Kya O'Donnell (one, four), Mikayla Crieger (goal).

On Sunday, Cheshire HS Alumni participate in the Open Tournament. They will meet 4 Goals (10 a.m.), Hamden Alumni (11 a.m.), FCU Red (12 p.m.), and Warriors 1 (1 p.m.).
