On Monday, Cheshire High School outdoor track and field athletes visited Middletown for the State Open. Senior Selina Sampieri (pole vault, fourth, 10 feet and six inches), junior Mark Fusco (800-meters, sixth, 1:56.94), and sophomore Janaia Skibitcky (triple jump, fifth, 35'7") qualified for this Saturday's New England Championship hosted by Bridgewater State University (Massachusetts). Skibitcky broke her own Cheshire record.
On the track, Skibitcky sprinted in the girls' 4x100-meter relay team (sophomore Janine Zumerchik, senior Kristin Cabrera, freshman Sarah Clark; 12th, 50.88).
Senior Chibueze Njoku competed in the discus (ninth, 144'8") and shot put (10th, 47'4"). Junior Cullen Clairmont took 15th in shot put (45'1.5") and sophomore Ethan LaChance recorded 24th for javelin (137'0").

Boys' Golf (12th, 326)
CHS tied Xavier in the Division I Open at Watertown's Crestbrook Park. Junior Chris Simione finished in a tie for 17th place (78). Senior captains Tom Arisco (80), Jake Ecke (82), and Ben Kaplan (86) placed consecutively. Freshman Dan Schena shot a 92.

Winners of five straight, Cheshire meets defending champion Darien (third, 16-2) in the Class L semifinals at West Haven. Start time is 5 p.m.
