On Friday, Cheshire High School girls' tennis (top seed, 13-4) beat Branford (second, 13-7) 5-2 for the second straight season in the Southern Connecticut Conference Division-II final at Yale University courts. Cheshire collected their 10th victory in a row and ended unbeaten in the series.
Junior Sara Bruce won 6-0, 6-1 at number two singles, winning Most Outstanding Player (MOP). Senior Nadja Pejovic claimed at 6-0, 6-2 victory at one singles.
Senior twin sisters Christy and Katie Freitag (6-4, 6-3), senior Ashley Tartaglia and junior Sidney Tomko (6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (9-7)), and senior Katie Lynch and sophomore Katherine Wang (6-2, 7-6 (7-4)) earned a doubles sweep.
Cheshire has the 13th seed for the Class L Tournament, hosting New Canaan (20th, 9-7) on Saturday at 10 a.m.
