CHS Softball Secures Share Of Housatonic Crown, Girls' LAX Comes Up Short In OT Thriller

On Tuesday, Cheshire High School softball (12-4, 6-2 in Housatonic Division) defeated Shelton (5-12, 2-6) 10-0 to sweep the series. Cheshire tied Amity as Housatonic Champions.
Freshman pitcher Abbie Abramson (2-1) allowed three hits in four innings. Junior Tori D'Amato worked the rest of the game. They had a strikeout and a walk.
CHS scored seven times in the first inning. Junior Sara Como (three RBIs) went three-for-three and senior Bryanna McIntosh (two RBIs) was three-for-four. With a two-run home run, senior Alexa DiLeo has gone deep five times in four games.
The girls travel to Foran (9-8) on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Cheshire won 4-1 on April 17.
Girls' Lacrosse (10-5)
In overtime, Cheshire lost 14-12 at Glastonbury (14-0). Cheshire trailed 6-4 at halftime, but came back to take a 10-8 lead with 7:36 remaining.
The score was tied 12-12 at the end of regulation. Glastonbury juniors Lindsay Shettle and Taylor Walker (game-high six goals) put in the last two goals in the first section of overtime.
Cheshire received two goals and three assists from senior Emma Farrel. Senior Maddy Levy and sophomore Meghan Dutchyshyn added three goals and an assist. Senior Olivia Larson started the first and second halves with goals. Senior Michelle Federico and junior Taylor Stauffer scored. Senior Danielle Bellantonio added an assist.
Junior goalkeeper Alexa Carbone provided 13 saves.
CHS hosts Farmington in Saturday's regular season finale at 10 a.m.
Boys' Golf (9-4-1)
Cheshire posted a 165-190 victory over host Hamden at Laurel View Country Club. Junior Chris Simione had a 38. Seniors Jake Ecke and Tom Arisco added a 40. Freshman Dan Schena fired a 47.
The Rams host Fairfield Prep (10-7-1) on Wednesday at The Farms Country Club. Start time is 2:30 p.m. Cheshire (163) beat the Jesuits (166) and Notre Dame-West Haven on May 14 at Brooklawn Country Club.
Girls' Golf (4-12)
At Southington Country Club, Cheshire came up short 214-215 against Newington. With the win, Newington won the series. Junior Dana Zappone went under 50 (48). Sophomore Savannah DeBauche (50), freshman Sophia Qiu (57), and sophomore Olivia Hally (60) also competed.
Cheshire travels to Copper Hill on Thursday to play host Suffield/East Granby at 3 p.m. CHS won 227-238 on April 24.

Boys' Tennis (9-7)
CHS ends the regular season at Shelton (6-10). Start time is 3:45 p.m.
Baseball (12-6, Housatonic Co-Champion at 6-2)
The Rams visit Foran (4-14) at 4 p.m. Cheshire walked off with a 3-2 win on April 17.
Boys' Volleyball (14-2, six-time defending Southern Connecticut Conference regular season champion at 8-0)
Cheshire carries a seven-match win streak into the final regular season home match against Lewis Mills at 6 p.m. Anthony Carbone (captain), Eric Cusano (captain), Pat Lindner (captain), Trent Hager, Colin Haensel, Ted Li, Greg Zane (pictured) will be recognized on Senior Night.
CHS won 3-0 on April 21 at Lewis Mills.
