BOE Could Take Action On Budget Tomorrow Night

April 30, 2014 by John Rook

The Board of Education will hold its meeting tomorrow night at Cheshire High School for its annual CHS showcase, however other business is expected to be discussed and perhaps even decided upon.
According to the Board's agenda, members will discuss the upcoming fiscal year's budget and possibly take action on it. The Board received a $2.3 million increase in funds from the Cheshire Town Council last month, but that was approximately $1 million less than what had been requested. Consequently, the Board and School District administrators must figure out how to account for the change, as well as how to work full-day kindergarten into the new budget.
Several suggestions have been offered, including making available an early retirement incentives package to eligible teachers, but the Board must approve any and all such changes.
The public is invited to attend the meeting tomorrow night at CHS, 525 South Main St., beginning at 7:30 p.m. In addition to regular business, the Board will hear from CHS administrators about progress being made at the school and new initiatives being implemented.
