The Veterans Council of Cheshire cordially invites residents and organizations to participate in the Memorial Day Parade, to be held on Sunday, May 25, at 1:30 p.m. Rain date is Sunday, June 1, at 1:30 p.m. The two-mile parade begins at Highland School, 490 Highland Ave., and proceeds along Rt. 10 to Cheshire High School.
Again this year, the Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Float Division. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at (203) 272-2743 if you would like to march in this year’s parade or enter a float. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The deadline to register is May 16.
A letter containing marching orders will be sent out approximately one week before the Parade. All Divisions will meet in the area of the Police Station and Highland School. There will be shuttle bus service from Cheshire High School to the beginning of the parade. The buses, one of which will be handicap accessible, will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
If there is a need to cancel the parade due to inclement weather, the cancellation will be announced on the Parks and Rec’s information hotline, (203) 250-2470, and also on the Cheshire website, www.cheshirect.org. The announcement would be made after 10 a.m.
This year’s Parade is dedicated to Cheshire’s oldest Veterans—Richard Miller, 101, and Amedeo Pagano, 102. They are both WWII Army veterans.
