Cheshire Girls' LAX, Tennis Extend Strong Starts

Cheshire High School girls' tennis improved to 3-0 on Monday afternoon, beating East Haven (0-3) 6-1. Senior twin sisters Christy and Katie Freitag (6-0, 6-2), senior Ashley Tartaglia and junior Sidney Tomko (6-1, 6-0), and sophomore Katherine Wang and junior Emily Acquavita (6-2, 6-0) are unbeaten in doubles.
Senior Nadja Pejovic (6-0, 6-0), junior Sara Bruce (6-1, 6-0), and sophomore Amanda Murray (6-1, 6-2) have also been perfect in singles. Cheshire visits North Haven next Monday at 3:45 p.m.
Girls' Lacrosse (2-0)
Cheshire traveled for a 15-5 win at Mercy (1-2). They led 11-3 at half. Senior Michelle Federico posted five goals (personal-best) and an assist. Classmate Maddy Levy chipped in four goals. CHS received the first varsity goals from juniors: Emma Gaudio (two), Erica (two) and Taylor Stauffer. Senior Olivia Larson added a goal and sophomore Meghan Dutchyshyn supplied her first assist.
Senior Becca Day had an assist. Junior goalkeeper Alexa Carbone provided 12 saves.
CHS hosts Hall (2-0) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Baseball (2-2, 2-0 in Housatonic Division)
The Rams earned a 2-0 shutout at Shelton (0-4, 0-2). Senior Ethan Lonardelli (eight strikeouts, walk, hit by pitch) gave up one hit in a complete game.
Cheshire added two runs in the sixth. RBI singles from juniors Cooper Mrowka (two hits) and Richie Mills scored classmate Ryan Pierpont (walk) and senior Dan Schock. Senior Wes Robertson also doubled in the win.
Cheshire hosts Foran on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Softball (3-1, 1-1)
The Lady Rams took their first loss 2-1 against Sheehan (3-0, 1-0).
Cheshire hosts Career Magnet (0-2) on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Boys' Lacrosse (0-3)
For the first time, Cheshire fell short against Notre Dame-West Haven (1-2). The Green Knights used a 4-0 run in the second quarter to take a 6-3 halftime lead. With the score knotted 6-6 in the third quarter, ND netted the final two goals.
Junior Matt Blois had a goal and three assists. Senior Matt Rougeot netted two goals, while classmates Ben Hamel, Alec Thomas, and junior Anthony Trasacco (assist) added one. It was the first goal for Thomas. Senior goalkeeper Jared Lawson provided 19 saves.
The Rams host Branford on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Boys' Tennis (0-3)
At Fairfield University, Cheshire lost 7-0 against host Fairfield Prep (1-2).
The Rams host Notre Dame-West Haven (2-0) on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

CHS meets West Haven and host Shelton at 3:45 p.m.
