For the first time since 2009, Cheshire High School baseball (1-2, 1-0) defeated 10-time defending Housatonic Division Champion Amity (0-3, 0-1) at home. CHS ended a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth inning. Senior Matt Hickey (hit by pitch) came home on a balk. Junior Ryan Pierpont (walk) and senior Wes Robertson (single) scored on a three-run home run from senior Dan Schock (single, three RBIs, hit by pitch).
Amity recorded both their runs in the top of the sixth. Junior Cooper Mrowka finished with two hits.
Junior pitcher Adam vonFischer (seven hits, two strikeouts) went six innings to win his first start. Senior Ethan Lonardelli (hit, two strikeouts) added his first save.
Cheshire visits Shelton (0-3, 0-1) on Monday at 1 p.m.
Girls' Lacrosse (1-0)
In the opener, CHS beat Conard (1-1) 12-10. Cheshire scored the first five goals and took a 9-5 halftime lead. Senior captains Michelle Federico and Maddy Levy, along with sophomore Meghan Dutchyshyn, had three goals. Dutchyshyn hadn't scored on varsity before. It was also the first hat trick for Federico.
Senior Danielle Chambrelli added two goals and classmate Danielle Bellantonio supplied one. Senior Becca Day posted her first point (assist). Junior goalkeeper Alexa Carbone made 11 saves.
