In Friday's Housatonic Division opener, Cheshire High School softball (3-0, 1-0) defeated Shelton (1-1, 0-1) 10-0. Seniors Alexa DiLeo (three runs scored) and Courtney Goggin (run scored) had three hits and an RBI each. Senior Bryanna McIntosh (two runs scored) and sophomore Megan Hodgdon added two runs and an RBI. Junior Olivia Odermatt (run scored, single) posted two RBIs. Juniors Casey Harding (two runs scored, double) and Sara Como (run scored, single) chipped in RBIs.
In the circle, junior pitcher Mackenzie Juodaitis recorded 10 strikeouts for the second straight day. She gave up a hit and walk in six innings. Classmate Tori D'Amato allowed a hit in the seventh, but still sealed the shutout.
On Monday, Cheshire hosts Sheehan (2-0) at 3:30 p.m.
Boys' Volleyball (2-0)
The Rams swept defending Class M Champion Oxford (1-1) 3-0. Game scores: 25-22, 25-19, 25-21. Oxford had been riding a 24-match win streak.
Senior Trent Hager supplied 26 assists and two digs. Junior Keyes Dorsey (personal-best eight kills) and senior Greg Zane (five kills) had a career-high four blocks. Senior Colin Haensel produced eight kills and two blocks. Classmate Eric Cusano had four aces (career-best) and five digs.
Cheshire hosts Masuk (0-1) next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Girls' Tennis (2-0)
The Lady Rams earned a 6-1 win at Branford (1-1).
Senior Nadja Pejovic (6-2, 6-3), junior Sara Bruce (7-5, 7-5), and sophomore Amanda Murray (6-1, 6-3) were victorious in singles. The following teams posted a doubles sweep: seniors Christy and Katie Freitag (6-4, 7-5), senior Ashley Tartaglia and junior Sidney Tomko (6-0, 6-1), senior Katie Lynch and sophomore Katherine Wang (7-5, 7-6 (7-1)). It was a rematch of the 2013 Southern Connecticut Conference Division II title match won 6-1 by Cheshire.
CHS hosts East Haven on Monday at 1 p.m.
Boys' Lacrosse (0-2)
The Rams fell short 11-8 at Shelton (1-1). It was Shelton's first victory in the series. Senior goalkeeper Jared Lawson compiled 24 saves. Senior Ben Hamel had three goals (personal-best) and an assist. Junior Anthony Trasacco secured his first two varsity goals. CHS also picked up goals from senior Matt Samuelson and juniors Jack Cunningham (assist) and Zach Winch. Senior Alec Thomas tallied his first two assists. Junior Christian Russo contributed an assist.
CHS hosts Notre Dame-West Haven (0-2) on Monday at 4 p.m.
Boys' Tennis (0-2)
In the home opener, Cheshire lost 7-0 to defending SCC Champion Daniel Hand (2-0).
The Rams face host Fairfield Prep on Monday at Fairfield University. Start time is 3:45 p.m.
