Cheshire High School softball improved to 2-0 on Thursday, beating East Haven (1-1) 3-2 in the home opener. With the score 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the girls pushed across the winning run. Seniors Bryanna McIntosh and Alexa DiLeo and sophomore Megan Hodgdon walked to load the bases. Junior Olivia Odermatt provided her third hit, an infield single to bring home McIntosh.
Cheshire led 1-0 in the second inning. Odermatt (double) scored on an RBI single from sophomore Gabby Bastista.
East Haven tied the score 1-1 in the sixth. Hodgdon answered with her first home run to lead off the bottom half.
The Yellow Jackets evened the game again when sophomore Kara Hanson hit a home run in the top of the seventh.
McIntosh, DiLeo, senior Courtney Goggin, and junior Andrea Russo supplied singles. Junior MacKenzie Juodaitis gave up three hits, striking out 10 and walking two.
Cheshire visits Shelton for Friday's Housatonic Division opener at 3:45 p.m.

Boys' Outdoor Track and Field (1-0)
CHS started the season by earning a 102.5-46.5 victory at Sheehan. Seniors Liam Nicoll and Chibueze Njoku paced the team on the track and in the field, respectively. Nicoll swept the 100- (11.6), 200- (23.9), and 400-meters (50.8). Njoku captured the high jump (five feet, two inches), discus (147'10.25"), and shot put (41’11”).
Cheshire received other individual victories from seniors Trey Phillips (800-meters, 2:04.9) and Dave Holtman (pole vault, 9’6”) and juniors Mark Fusco (1,600-meters, 4:40.2) and Russell Adam (3,200-meters, 10:55.3). The 4x100-meter relay team of junior Frank Fusco, seniors Yadi Lukashenko, Tyler Post, Mike Milici sprinted to another first place (45.5).
Next Tuesday, the Rams meet host Shelton and West Haven at 3:45 p.m.
Boys' Golf (1-1)
CHS beat North Haven 173-185 in the home opener at The Farms Country Club. Senior Jake Ecke shot a 40. Classmate Tom Arisco and junior Chris Simione both finished at 42. Senior Ben Kaplan fired a 40.
On April 21, the Rams host Hamden at 2:30 p.m.
At Career Magnet (1-1), Cheshire took a 4-2 loss. Sophomore Tommy Savino had two hits, a run scored, a walk. Senior Wes Robertson supplied an RBI single. Senior Ethan Lonardelli scored after reaching on an error.
CHS hosts Amity (0-2) in Saturday's Housatonic opener at 12 p.m.
Girls' Golf (0-2)
At Indian Hill Country Club, Cheshire came up short 239-244 against host Newington. Junior Dana Zappone was the medalist at 57. Junior Jennie Paulsen (61), freshman Sophia Qiu (62), senior Zoe Sheehan (64), and junior Maria Buzzelli (69) followed Zappone.
CHS returns to action on April 21, meeting host Daniel Hand at the Madison Country Club. Start time is 3 p.m.
