On March 22, Cheshire High School earned first place (12,490 pounds) out of 19 teams in the Inaugural Connecticut High School Football Weight Lifting Competition at New London. Players scored in the Squat, Bench Press, and Power Clean. Weight classes included 160 and Under, 161-180, 181-200, 201-220, and Over 220.
Junior Cullen Clairmont captured the Over 220 Squat (500) and Power Clean (300) en route to winning his weight class (1,100). Clairmont earned third for the Bench Press (300). Sophomore Alex Conrod, competing alongside Clairmont, was second in Squat (445) and placed third overall (905).
Junior Tyler D'Errico (905, 181-200) and sophomore Chris Hillburn (950, 201-220) finished runner-up in their weight classes. D'Errico was second in Squat (405) and third on Power Clean (250). Hillburn also nabbed second for Squat (445).
Junior Tony Marcucilli tied for third in 181-200 Squat (405). In 160 and Under, sophomore Andrew Fiocco added second on Bench Press (235).
Daniel Hand (12,205) and Shelton (12,140) followed the Rams in the standings.
