Cheshire Ice Hockey Comes Up Short In SCC-SWC D-II Semi

On Thursday, Cheshire High School ice hockey (fourth seed, 10-10-1) lost to Branford (top, 16-4-1) for the second time 4-1 in the Southern Connecticut Conference-Southwestern Conference Division II semifinals at West Haven. The Hornets scored three times in the first period and tallied another goal in the second. Junior Tyler Hackett and senior Anthony Pascale had two goals.
CHS converted a power play six minutes and five seconds into the third period. Senior Chris Stevens tallied the goal and classmate Luke Vendetto had the assist.
The Hornets held a 43-41 edge in shots. Senior goalkeeper Joey Solla made 39 saves for the Rams.
Branford junior Aidan Deane posted two assists. Senior Jason Vitale and freshman Zachary Withington added one each. Junior goalkeeper Adolph Brink compiled 40 saves.
On Tuesday, CHS (eighth) hosts Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks Co-Op (ninth, 14-5-1) in the D-II First Round at Wesleyan University. Start time is 6 p.m.
