On Thursday, Cheshire High School boys' basketball (eighth seed, 13-8) came up short 60-56 against Notre Dame-West Haven (ninth, 14-7) in the Southern Connecticut Conference First Round. The Rams scored buzzer beaters in the first three quarters, leading 27-26 at halftime. The Green Knights tied the game 46-46 at the end of regulation and outscored CHS 14-10 from there.
Junior Andrew Yamin scored 14 points in the loss. Seniors Reid Duglenski, Jon Rizzo, and Collin Jordan added 11, 10, and nine points, respectively. Senior Tyler Post had five and classmate Tom Arisco supplied three. Senior Mark Dietrich and sophomore Heath Post contributed inside baskets.
Jordan (captain), Tyler Post (captain), Arisco, Dietrich, Duglenski, Pedro Pena, and Rizzo have played at home for the last time. The Rams will travel for the Class LL First Round.

Seniors Jake Cervero (138 pounds; 22-4) and Gabe Vega (170; 23-5) travel to Hillhouse's Floyd Little Athletic Center on Friday for the State Open at 4:15 p.m. It is the third straight season that Cervero has qualified, the second he will wrestle. Vega is making his debut.
