On Monday, at Quinnipiac University's TD Bank Sports Center, Cheshire High School ice hockey (9-7-1) defeated Guilford (3-11) for the second time 8-4. Cheshire never trailed, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the first period. Junior Ben Klanica secured five assists (career-best). Senior assistant captains Luke Vendetto (two goals) and Dan Purslow added two assists.
Classmate Cody Borowski supplied two goals and assist. The Rams also received goals from seniors Alex Bausch, Greg Zovas, Joey D'Errico, and junior Matt Jordan. Senior Matt Vallillo, juniors Tommy Sokoloff and Frank Ilnicki, added assists.

Cheshire had one more shot (25-24) than the Indians. Senior Joey Solla (13) and sophomore Jake Verneris (seven) totaled 20 saves.
CHS hosts West Haven (6-7-1) on Saturday at Wesleyan University. Start time is 6 p.m. Chris Stevens (captain), Purslow, Vendetto, Bausch, Borowski, Antim Constantinescu, D'Errico, Jon Hauser, Solla, Vallillo, and Zovas will be recognized on Senior Night, starting at 5:45 p.m.
Indoor Track and Field
Cheshire attended the State Open at Hillhouse's Floyd Little Athletic Center. Senior Selina Sampieri led the girls' team, tying for fourth in pole vault at 10 feet. Sophomore Janaia Skibitcky (long jump; 16 feet, 7.25 inches) and senior Patricia Larson (shot put; personal record of 34, 2.5) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Skibitcky also led off for the 4x200-meter relay team (seniors Kristin Cabrera and Kimmi Grove, junior Alexandra Pelletier; seventh, 1:49.99).
On the boys' side, senior Liam Nicoll placed sixth in the 300-meters (36.08). Junior Mark Fusco (ninth, 1:27.35) and senior Trey Phillips (12th, 1:29.41) both competed in the 600-meters. Senior Chibueze Njoku came in 14th for shot put (45, 3.5).
The New England Championship is March 1 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury, Mass.
