Vega Takes Bronze Medal At SCC, Ice Hockey Games Moved

On Saturday, Cheshire High School wrestling took 11th (28 points) in the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship at Shelton. Senior Gabe Vega recorded three wins (two pins, 5-0) to secure a bronze medal 170 pounds. Senior Jake Cervero (138; two pins) and Lyman Hall senior independent Clayton Ahearn (195; 3-2, pin) were fourth.
Freshman Sean Black (106; pin, 8-3) chipped in two victories. CHS also received wins from seniors Lucas Swan (132; 4-2), Karl Jacobs (145; pin), sophomores Owen Brown (113; 3-2) and Mike Marotta (152; pin), and freshman Artem Samiannin (182; pin).
The Class LL Championship will run next Friday and Saturday at Trumbull.
Due to winter weather, ice hockey games were moved:
Boys (8-6-1)
The Rams will travel to the Northford Ice Pavilion on Sunday to play host North Haven (10-3-3) at 8:30 p.m. The rivals tied 3-3 on Jan. 20.
Girls (8-8)
Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op hasn't set a make-up date for their game against host Lauralton Hall at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice. The girls visit Simsbury Farms Rink on Tuesday to meet the host Trojans (15-2) at 4:15 p.m. Simsbury, the defending SCC Champion, won 6-0 on Jan. 13.
