CHS Basketball Falls To Top Competition, Varsity Slate For Wednesday

Cheshire High School boys' basketball (11-5, Housatonic Division Champion at 6-0) came up short 59-56 on Tuesday at Career Magnet (16-1). Career made a free throw and added a lay-up to break a 56-56 tie, sweeping the series and ending Cheshire's six-game win streak.
CHS trailed 35-28 at halftime. Junior Andrew Yamin scored 23 points (13 in first quarter). Senior Reid Duglenski added 12 points. Classmates Jon Rizzo and Collin Jordan chipped in eight and seven, respectively. Sophomore Heath Post had five points and senior Mark Dietrich added one.
The Rams host top-ranked Fairfield Prep (17-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Jesuits won 72-55 on Jan. 13 at Fairfield University.
Girls' Basketball (10-9, 3-4)
Cheshire took their second loss to defending Class LL Champion Mercy (19-0) 59-43. Mercy only led 31-30 at halftime, but out scored the Lady Rams 28-13 from there. Junior Sara Como scored 21 points (19 before halftime). She sank five three-pointers.
Senior Missy Bailey had 10 points (nine in the first half). She is just 12 points from 1,000.
In Thursday's regular season finale, CHS hosts Sheehan (9-9, 2-5). Cheshire won 51-43 on Jan. 7. As senior tri-captains, Bailey, Lily Dolyak, and Bryanna McIntosh will be recognized before the rematch.
Wednesday's varsity schedule:
Skiing (Boys, 11-2; Girls, 4-5)
Cheshire faces Amity, Branford, Fairfield Prep, Glastonbury, Westbrook, and Westhill at Mount Southington. Start time is 4:45 p.m.
On Senior Night, Cheshire hosts East Haven. The dual-meet finale starts at 6 p.m.
