Cheshire Ice Hockey Comes Back To Stun Mustangs, Varsity Slate For Tuesday

On Monday, Cheshire High School ice hockey (8-6-1) surged out of a 6-0 deficit to beat Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe (4-8) 8-6 at Northford Ice Pavilion. Cheshire deposited seven goals during the final period. Junior Matt Jordan recorded the game-winner (7-6) with 41.4 seconds left. Senior Luke Vendetto compiled two goals and assists. Junior Ben Klanica smacked his first goal of the season and garnered three assists (career-high). Senior Alex Bausch netted two goals. Senior Joey D'Errico (assist) and junior Frank Ilnicki also secured goals.
Senior Greg Zovas supplied two assists. The Rams received an assist each from seniors Chris Stevens, Jon Hauser, and Matt Vallillo. CHS took 52 shots compared to 29 for the Mustangs. Senior Joey Solla made 22 saves and sophomore Jake Verneris provided one.
Cheshire returns to Northford on Saturday to meet host North Haven (10-2-3) at 8:30 p.m. The rivals played to a 3-3 tie on Jan. 20.
Tuesday's varsity schedule:
Boys' Basketball (11-4, Housatonic Division Champion at 6-0)
The Rams carry a six-game win streak into Career Magnet (15-1) at 7 p.m. The Panthers won the first meeting 80-75 on Jan. 16.
Girls' Basketball (10-8, 3-4)
CHS visits unbeaten Mercy (18-0) at 7 p.m. The defending Class LL Champions, Mercy earned a 72-41 victory on Jan. 15.
Boys' Swim And Dive (8-2)
Cheshire had their meet with host Naugatuck canceled at Central Connecticut State University. On Feb. 18, the Rams will face host Amity at Orange Community Center Pool. Start time is 7:30 p.m.
