Cheshire High School girls' (fifth, 45 points) and boys' (sixth, 36) indoor track and field left Hillhouse's Floyd Little Athletic Center on Thursday with four gold medals. Liam Nicoll earned two of those victories, winning the 300-meters and contributing to the victorious 4x400-meter relay squad (juniors Frank and Mark Fusco, senior Trey Phillips; 3:33.73). Senior Chibueze Njoku claimed the shot put crown (50 feet, inches).
Mark Fusco shared fourth place in the 600-meters (1:28.09). Phillips (600-meters, 1:28.26), senior David Holtman (pole vault, 10 feet), and junior Russell Adam (1,600-meters, 4:38.13) finished sixth. Adam also nabbed ninth in the 3,200-meters (10:17.16).
In the girls' portion, senior Selina Sampieri collected her third consecutive championship in pole vault (10 feet). Sampieri wasn't done, placing top five in high (tie for third; four, eight) and long (fourth; 16, 1.5) jumps. Classmate Kristin Cabrera (third; 16, 3.5) and sophomore Janaia Skibitcky (fifth; 16, one inch) added to a strong group in long jump.
Cabrera and Skibitcky (55-meters, eighth, 7.8) also ran on the 4x200-meter relay team (senior Kimmi Grove, junior Jamiya Richardson; 1:50.95). The 4x800-meter relay squad (sophomores Lauren Votto, Emily and Isabel Peck, freshman Camille Lewis; 11:11.51) joined them with a bronze medal.
Sophomore Lauren Carbone (3,200-meters, 12:16.09) and junior Andrea Russo (600-meters, 1:48.04) secured fifth overall. Carbone was eighth in the 1,600-meters (5:42.34), while Russo factored into the 4x400-meter relay team (freshman Sarah Clark, seniors Michelle Federico and Katie Cavallaro; sixth, 4:31.52).
CHS received sixth places from senior Patricia Larson (shot put; 32, 5.5) and Richardson (55-meters, 7.78). Cavallaro tied for seventh in high jump (four, eight). Junior Natalie Wickenheisser recorded eighth in the 1,000-meters (3:21.31).

Cheshire returns to New Haven for the Class LL Championship on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.

The Rams visit six-time defending Class L Champion Pomperaug at 6:30 p.m.
Girls' Basketball (9-6, 2-2 in Housatonic Division)
CHS hosts Lyman Hall (11-3, 3-1) at 7 p.m. The Trojans won 51-42 on Jan. 4.
Boys' Basketball (7-4, 3-0)
Cheshire faces host Lyman Hall (3-9, 0-4) at 7 p.m. The Rams beat them 70-43 on Jan. 4.
