The Cheshire Board of Education unanimously approved Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio's budget request of $66.89 million on Thursday night.
The budget will now be forwarded to the Town Manager and Town Council.
All BOE members feel that the requested increase of almost $3.2 million, or about five percent, will cover needs, not wants. Of those increases, $1.5 million will be for salaries, $1.2 for medical benefits, and $400,000 for instructional expenses, which include special education tuition costs.
Incorporated into the budget request is a start-up cost of $856,000 to implement full-day kindergarten next school year.
For more information on the BOE member’s views and why they feel their budget request is appropriate, see an upcoming edition of the Cheshire Herald.
