Pool Project Hits Snag Over Zoning Regulations

January 15, 2014 by michael torelli

The Cheshire Community Pool tension membrane structure has hit roadblock due to Town zoning regulations.

Bartlem Park, deemed a Residential 40 (R40) zone, has a current maximum height limit of 40 feet. The new steel structure will reach roughly 55 feet, which is currently not allowed in an R40 zone. The Town is unsure as to how the previous two bubbles were allowed on the site, as they exceeded the height limit.
As such, Chairman Tim Slocum reached out to Town Manager Michael Milone, who consulted the Planning Department to find a way to resolve the issue. The Councilors voted to apply for a variance to allow for the structure to legally reach up to 60 feet but, due to Town regulations, they must seek approval for the change from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
For more information on the outcome, see the story in this week’s Cheshire Herald.
