On Saturday, Cheshire High School ice hockey (4-4) defeated Amity (4-3) 4-1 at Wesleyan University. The Rams lost the first meeting 6-4 on Dec. 27 of last year at West Haven. This time, senior Luke Vendetto had a hat trick. Freshman Matt Federico supplied his first varsity goal. Cheshire received assists from seniors Dan Purslow, Matt Vallillo, juniors Kyle Frederick, Joey D'Errico, Matt Jordan, and Frank Ilnicki. Senior goalkeeper Joey Solla made 36 saves.
Amity senior Adam Shea added a power play goal and senior goalkeeper Brian Mosher totaled 24 saves. Amity led 37-28 in shots.
Prior to the game, CHS handed out the Third Greg Schena/Mark Whitlock Award to senior Jon Hauser.
On Wednesday, the Rams face host North Branford (4-2) at the Northford Ice Pavilion. Start time is 8:30 p.m.
In winning his first varsity match by pin at 220 pounds, sophomore Austin Ingarra secured the team's first win 49-33 over host East Haven. Cheshire fell short against Joel Barlow (42-30), Foran (54-18), and Stratford (49-33).
Senior Karl Jacobs won his four matches by pin at 145. The following wrestlers secured 3-1 records: Gabe Vega (170/182), sophomores Mike Marotta (152) and Matt Robidoux (138).
An independent wrestler from Lyman Hall, senior Clayton Ahearn swept his three matches.
The Rams host Amity on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Girls' Indoor Track And Field (sixth, 26 points)
In the Southern Connecticut Conference Coaches Invite, senior Selina Sampieri earned third in the pole vault (10 feet, six inches) and high jump (tie at four, 10; personal record) at Hillhouse's Floyd Little Athletic Center. Sophomore Janaia Skibitcky (long jump, fourth; 16 feet, 8.25 inches), senior Patricia Larson (shot put, sixth; 32, 6.5), and junior Alexandra Pelletier (600-meters, eighth, 1:43.07) finished in the top 10 individually.
Pelletier also anchored her 4x200-meter relay team (seniors Kimmi Grove, Kristin Cabrera, Michelle Federico; 1:51.6) to a bronze medal.
Wednesday's Novice meet starts at 3:30 p.m.
Girls' Ice Hockey (4-3)
At The Rinks at Shelton, Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op lost 8-0 against East Catholic. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Cremo came up with 26 saves. Amity senior Sarah Wiederecht had four.
The girls host Simsbury on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
