Florio Asking For Five Percent Increase In Education Budget

January 8, 2014 by John Rook

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio kicked off the budget season last night by presenting his budget request for the 2014/2015 school year.
Florio is asking for a budget of $66,890,621, which would mean an increase of nearly $3.2 million over the current operating budget. Included in the proposal is $856,000 for the implementation of full-day kindergarten.
Over the next few weeks the Board of Education will debate the merits of Florio's proposal and, ultimately, decide on a final budget to pass along to Town Manager Michael Milone. The Board can increase, decrease, or keep Florio's request intact before forwarding it along.
The final budget number will be determined by the Town Council later this spring.
For the full story on Florio's budget, see this week's Cheshire Herald.
