After trailing 4-2 and 5-3 on Saturday, Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op girls' ice hockey (2-0) came back to defeat host Greenwich (0-2) at Dorothy Hamil Skating Rink. Senior Abbie Lange produced two goals and an assist. Junior Alexa Carbone and freshman Alyssa Stevens also had assist. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Cremo provided 11 saves. Hat tricks: freshman Meaghan Francis (Amity), sophomore Catherine Babbidge (North Haven).
The girls return next Friday, facing host Guilford at East Haven Memorial Skating Rink. Start time is 11 a.m.
At the Fairfield Ludlowe Tournament, senior captain Lucas Swan earned third place at 132 pounds. The following wrestlers added wins: seniors Dan Lisath (220) and Karl Jacobs (145), sophomores Darren Barile (126) and Owen Brown (113) and Mike Marotta (152), freshmen Sean Black and Artem Samiannin.
Cheshire visits Xavier on Monday at 5 p.m.
Boys' Ice Hockey (0-2)
For the second straight game, the Rams saw a 2-0 lead slip away on Saturday. East Catholic (2-0) rallied for a 4-3 overtime win over visiting CHS at Champions Skating Center in Cromwell. East Catholic junior Jake McCarthy tied the game 3-3 with 18.1 seconds left in regulation. The game-winner from senior Patrick Bishop came with 26.2 seconds remaining in extra time.
Cheshire jumped ahead on goals by seniors Luke Vendetto and Alex Bausch. The first goal came 47 seconds into the game. Vendetto, senior Joe D'Errico, and junior Matt Jordan recorded assists in building the 2-0 lead.
East Catholic senior Griffin Casey scored first in the second period, but Cheshire extended to a 3-1 lead after senior Dan Purslow netted a power-play goal. East Catholic rallied again on a penalty shot from senior Brian O'Connell with 2:59 left in the second period.
Junior Alex Manner had two assists for East Catholic. O'Connell and junior Steven Murray had one apiece.
Cheshire returns on Monday for the West Haven Holiday Tournament. They meet Guilford at 5 p.m.
