The Cheshire High School Music Department will hold its annual Instrumental Music Winter Concert on Thursday, Dec. 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in CHS’s Thorp Auditorium, 525 South Main St. The CHS Concert Band, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Marching Ram Band all will be featured. The entire community is invited to join the CHS Music Department for this very special musical evening.
The Concert Band, under the direction of John L. Kuhner, will open the program with a stirring piece by Robert Sheldon entitled, "Celebration and Song," followed by an inspiring arrangement of the beautiful hymn tune, “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” by Michael Brown, entitled "Appalachian Air." The Concert Band will finish its’ portion of the program with an exciting composition, "Exaltation," by James Swearingen. Second on the program, the String Orchestra will perform famed Connecticut composer Leroy Anderson’s "Sleigh Ride" and the Allegretto Grazioso from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8. Symphony Orchestra will perform the Bacchanale from "Samson & Delilah." Next, the Symphonic Band will begin with a fresh new opener, "Groove Music" by Brian Balmages, followed by an exciting programmatic piece entitled "Perthshire Majesty" by Samuel Hazo. The Symphonic Band will close its portion of the program with a barn burner by Todd Stalter, entitled "Ignition." The Marching Ram Band will conclude the program with an indoor rendition of its award-winning Fall Show Performance entitled, “The New World” featuring music from Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
The CHS Thorp Auditorium doors will open at 7:15 p.m. There is no admission charge.
