Saturday's CHS Championship Day Schedule

November 15, 2013 by Greg Lederer

Cheshire High School schedule for Saturday includes:
Field Hockey (second seed, 20-2)
In a rematch of last year, CHS meets defending champion Darien (top, 20-1-1) in the Class L final at Wethersfield. Start time is 12 p.m. Cheshire beat Greenwich (third, 15-4) 2-1 for their 10th straight win in Tuesday's semifinal at Newtown. Darien shut out Simsbury (fourth, 14-2-2-1) 5-0 at Cheshire.
This will be the third straight final appearance for CHS. They lost 4-0 to Darien last year and defeated Norwalk 1-0 for the school's ninth crown in 2011. Senior captains Michelle Federico and Olivia Larson, along with classmates Danielle Bellantonio, Emma Farrel, Maddy Levy, Allie Rosadino, Ashley Tartaglia, and Sammy Trott (manager) enter their final game with the best record (74-12-1-1) in school history.
Girls' Volleyball (top, 26-0)
Like field hockey, the Lady Rams are also making their second straight final berth. CHS faces Staples (second, 22-2) at Berlin. Start time is 7 p.m.
In Thursday's semifinal, the Lady Rams swept Fairfield Ludlowe (fifth, 19-4) 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-14) at Trumbull. Staples defeated Greenwich (third, 19-3) 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-20, 25-21) in the other semi.
Cheshire came up short 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 21-25) against Darien in last year's title match. Saturday will be the final match for senior captains Eryn Dorsey and Becca Ligi, along with Phoebe Carmichael, Kathleen Hastie, Laura Heynen, Eva Whelan, and manager Melanie Clarke.
Girls' Swimming
Cheshire competes in the State Open at Yale University's Robert J.H. Kiphuth Exhibition Pool. Start time is 12 p.m.
In Friday's Diving meet, freshman Emily Glatt took 24th (270.1). Westhill/Stamford sophomore Rachel Burston finished first (441.45).
