Cheshire Girls' Volleyball Sweeps Fairfield Ludlowe, Reaches LL Final For Second Straight Season

Cheshire High School girls' volleyball (top seed, 26-0) swept Fairfield Ludlowe (fifth, 19-4) 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-14) in a Class LL semifinal at Trumbull. Senior Phoebe Carmichael produced nine digs. Cheshire picked up six digs from juniors Jillian Haberli (nine kills, two blocks), Maria Buzzelli, and Sarah Rodgers (14 assists). Junior Jill Howard added six kills and four blocks. Senior Laura Heynen recorded three kills and five digs, as well as four assists and four aces. Senior Becca Ligi chipped in five kills and three digs. Cheshire has reached the LL final for the second straight year. They meet Staples (second, 20-1) on Saturday at Berlin. Start time is 7 p.m. Staples defeated Greenwich (third, 19-3) 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-20, 25-21) in their semi.
CHS lost 3-0 against Darien in last year's final.
Freshman Emily Glatt is seeded 14th heading into Friday's State Open at Middletown. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
