Cheshire Field Hockey Eliminates Mustangs, Reaches Class L Semi

Cheshire High School field hockey (second seed, 19-2) beat Fairfield Warde (10th, 10-7-2-1) 4-1 in a Class L quarterfinal. Seniors Michelle Federico, Emma Farrel, and Danielle Bellantonio chipped in a goal and an assist. Senior Olivia Larson had the first goal. Senior goalkeeper Maddy Levy made four saves.
Senior Emily Allen was awarded the goal for Fairfield Warde. Junior Katy Stepsis had 12 saves.
Federico (captain), Larson (captain), Bellantonio, Farrel, Levy, Allie Rosadino, Ashley Tartaglia, and Sammy Trott (manager) finished unbeaten for the season (10-0, 23-1 in last two years) at Alumni Field. CHS plays Greenwich (third, 15-3) in Tuesday's Class L semifinal at Newtown. Start time is 4 p.m. Greenwich eliminated New Canaan (sixth, 12-4-1-1) 1-0. Cheshire's current nine-game win streak began after a 2-1 loss on Oct. 12 at Greenwich.
The Lady Rams shut out the Cardinals 2-0 in the 2011 semifinal at Fairfield Ludlowe. Greenwich is the only team to beat CHS (2-1, Oct. 18, 2012) on the turf at Alumni Field.
