Bavone Gets Her 400th Win For Cheshire Girls' V-Ball, Glatt Takes Fourth In L Diving

Cheshire High School girls' volleyball (top seed, 24-0) defeated Norwich Free Academy (17th, 13-9) 3-1 (25-14, 15-25, 25-15, 25-16) in the Class LL Second Round. Head Coach Sue Bavone earned her 400th win (400-78) at CHS. She started coaching there in 1994. Senior Becca Ligi (10 kills, three digs), along with juniors Sarah Rodgers (20 assists, eight digs, two aces), Maria Buzzelli (16 digs, two aces), and Jill Howard (eight kills, four blocks), were stat leaders against NFA.
Cheshire hosts Housatonic Division rival Amity (eighth, 17-5) in Saturday's quarterfinal at 6 p.m. It will be the last home match for seniors Eryn Dorsey (captain), Becca Ligi (captain), Phoebe Carmichael, Kathleen Hastie, Laura Heynen, Eva Whelan, and Melanie Clarke (manager). Amity swept South Windsor (ninth, 15-5) 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-17). Cheshire defeated Amity on Sept. 30 (3-1) and Oct. 18 (3-0).
Freshman Emily Glatt (fourth, 317.6) and junior Erin Mostoller (12th, 298.1) competed in the Class L meet at Bulkeley.
Swim qualifying is Saturday at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford at 6:15 p.m. Warm-up starts at 5:10 p.m. Wesleyan University hosts Tuesday's final at 7 p.m.
