Cheshire Field Hockey Shuts out Fairfield Ludlowe In Class L First Round, Bavone To Coach For 400th Win

After a scoreless first half, Cheshire High School field hockey (second seed, 18-2) added three goals to beat Fairfield Ludlowe (18th, 7-9-1-1) 3-0 for their eighth straight win in the Class L First Round. Senior Michelle Federico had the first goal and assisted junior Erica Stauffer. Senior co-captain Olivia Larson posted the final goal. Senior goalkeeper Maddy Levy (seven saves) got her 10th shutout. Fairfield Ludlowe senior goalkeeper Riley Thompson had 18 saves.

Cheshire hosts Fairfield Warde (10th, 9-5-2-1) in Friday's quarterfinal at 2 p.m. It will be the last home game for eight seniors. Fairfield Warde defeated host Norwich Free Academy (seventh, 10-4-0-3) 4-0.
Girls' Volleyball (top, 23-0)
Cheshire received a bye in the Class LL First Round. They host Norwich Free Academy (17th, 12-7) in Thursday's Second Round at 6 p.m. Head Coach Sue Bavone will go for her 400th win (399-78) at CHS. NFA beat host Fairfield Warde (16th, 12-8) 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 18-25, 16-14) in Monday's First Round.
CHS junior Erin Mostoller and freshman Emily Glatt compete in Thursday's Class L Championship at Bulkeley. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
