Cheshire Boys' Cross Country Claims Seventh In State Open, Adam Earns Milestone

Cheshire High School boys' cross country earned seventh (218 points) in the State Open at Wickham Park in Manchester. Junior Russell Adam (22nd, 16:42) took All-State and qualified for the New England Championship, both for the first time. Junior Mark Fusco was 42nd (17:05). Senior captains Lucas Marcouiller (73rd, 17:28) and Ben Kaplan (109th, 17:48), along with classmate Trey Phillips (55th, 17:14), are graduating seniors. Juniors Steve Caldwell (123rd, 17:59) and Ryan Shalagan (163rd, 18:50) also competed.
Head Coach Jim Bennett coached his final meet after 15 seasons. Fairfield Prep senior Christian Alvarado tipped Ridgefield senior Trevor Hopper for first place at 15:31. Ridgefield was first (58) as a team.
Junior Natalie Wickenheisser came in 92nd (21:13) in the girls' race. Staples sophomore Hannah Debalsi was the champion (17:44). Tolland claimed the championship (74).
