Cheshire High School girls' volleyball (20-0, six-time defending Housatonic Division Champ at 8-0) came back to defeat Branford (13-7) 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-16) on Thursday. It was their second win over the Hornets and secured an undefeated regular season. Captains Eryn Dorsey (six kills, career-high 12 digs) and Becca Ligi joined classmates Phoebe Carmichael, Kathleen Hastie, Laura Heynen (11 digs, six assists, five kills, three aces), Eva Whelan, and Melanie Clarke (manager) in being honored on Senior Night. They have an 83-8 career record.
Cheshire also received contributions from juniors Jill Howard (career-high 12 kills; 11 blocks), Jillian Haberli (13 kills), and Sarah Rodgers (33 assists, five digs) against Branford.
Cheshire has the top seed for the Southern Connecticut Conference and Class LL tournaments. They've received a first-round bye in the former tournament. The winner of Friday's match between Sheehan (ninth; 10-10, 1-7) and host Daniel Hand (eighth; 10-8) at 4:30 p.m. comes to Cheshire on Monday. Time to be announced. CHS beat Sheehan 3-0 on Sept. 25 and Oct. 14.
The Lady Rams are the two-time defending tournament champion and have won nine titles (SCC record).
