CHS Girls' Soccer Defends Division Title, V-Ball And Swim And Dive Stay Unbeaten

Cheshire High School girls' soccer (11-3, 7-1 in Housatonic Division) beat Shelton (4-7-3, 4-3-1) 6-2 for the second time. The team's seventh straight victory allowed them to defend the Housatonic title. Cheshire had a 3-2 lead at halftime. Junior Alexandra Pelletier netted three goals. Junior Hannah Bonitz (two goals), along with seniors Ali Lamberti (goal) and Leah Chamberlin, had assists. Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Riccio made five saves.
The Lady Rams visit Sacred Heart Academy (9-2-3) on Monday at 3:45 p.m. CHS lost 3-2 on Sept. 17.
Girls' Volleyball (17-0, six-time defending Housatonic Champion at 8-0)
For the second time, Cheshire defeated Amity (14-3, 5-3) 3-0 in the Housatonic finale. Scores: 25-20, 27-25, 25-14. Junior Maria Buzzelli had 13 digs. Seniors Becca Ligi (12; block, dig) and Eva Whelan (eight; four blocks, three aces), and junior Jillian Haberli (10; three digs) were kill leaders. Junior Sarah Rodgers chipped in 24 assists, seven digs, and two aces.
CHS hosts Sacred Heart Academy (6-9) in Monday's Pink Game at 6:30 p.m. Cheshire won 3-1 in the Sept. 10 opener.
Girls' Swim And Dive (9-0)
At Wesleyan University, the Lady Rams beat host Mercy (5-5) 100-81. Seniors Becca Alvarez-Petit (200-yard individual medley, 2:27.02), Denise Costello (50-yard freestyle, 26.6), Laura Mongillo (100-yard butterfly, 1:06.12), juniors Lindsay Smalec (100-yard freestyle, 57.32) and Taylor Plumley (500-yard freestyle, 5:31.71), and sophomore Nillie Burton (200-yard freestyle, 2:12.13) were victorious individually.
Smalec secured two more victories when she joined with freshman Lily Kurtz on 200-yard medley (Mongillo, Costello; 1:58.75) and freestyle (freshman Kristen Reid, junior Ellie Senft; 1:47.92) teams.
Cheshire ends the dual-meet season on Tuesday against Amity (10-0) on Tuesday at Hamden Hall. Start time is 6 p.m. Amity has won 32 straight meets. CHS will recognize 14 seniors.
Boys' Soccer (3-8-2, 2-4-1)
The Rams wrap up the Housatonic slate against Shelton (8-2-3, 4-2-1) on Saturday at 6 p.m. Captains Bryan Carter, Colin Haensel, and Joe Phillips, along with Griffen Andes, Tyler Bailey, DJ Frione, Joseph Noel, Rohan Roy, Yuriy Tsapar, and Matt Weimer will have Senior Night.
Shelton beat Cheshire 4-1 on Oct. 2.
