CHS Girls' Swim And Dive Gets Big Win Over Branford, Soccer Teams Avenge Losses

In a meet of unbeaten teams at Hamden Hall, Cheshire High School girls' swim and dive (8-0) defeated Branford (7-1) 101-83. Junior Lindsay Smalec captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.07) and 100-yard butterfly (59.13). She took another first place with the 200-yard medley relay team (senior Laura Mongillo, freshman Lily Kurtz, junior Ellie Senft; 1:53.43).
CHS also received victories from Mongillo (100-yard backstroke, 1:03.04), junior Taylor Plumley (500-yard freestyle, 5:27.54), and freshman Emily Glatt (diving, 178.5).
On Friday, Cheshire competes against host Mercy at Wesleyan University. Start time is 7 p.m.

Girls' Soccer (10-3, 6-1 in Housatonic Division)
The junior class helped the Lady Rams win their sixth straight 3-2 over Daniel Hand (5-2-6). Alexandra Pelletier netted two goals. Hannah Bonitz had a goal and an assist. Olivia Manke also supplied an assist, her first point, on the eventual game-winner from Pelletier.
Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Riccio recorded three saves. Annie Hesse and Natalie Baughan scored for Hand, who used Amy Boswell (nine saves) and Emily Ashman (save) in net.
Cheshire visits Shelton on Friday at 7 p.m. With a win or tie, they defend the Housatonic crown.
Boys' Soccer (3-8-2, 2-4-1)
At Sheehan (5-3-4, 2-3-2), Cheshire settled for a 3-3 draw. With three minutes left, junior Zach Winch netted the team's third goal on a feed from senior Joe Phillips. Earlier in the half, senior Griffen Andes knotted the game 2-2.
Sophomore Jake Goldstein scored the opening goal, but Sheehan took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
For the second consecutive game, junior goalkeeper Matt Skydel had three saves.
Cheshire hosts Shelton for Saturday's Senior Night at 6 p.m. Ten boys will be recognized. Cheshire lost the first meeting 4-1 on Oct. 2.
Wednesday's varsity schedule:
Girls' Volleyball (15-0, 7-0)
The Lady Rams host Foran at 6:30 p.m. Cheshire swept them on Sept. 26.
Field Hockey (11-2)
Cheshire hosts Sacred Heart Academy for Senior Night at 7 p.m. Captains Michelle Federico and Olivia Larson, along with Danielle Bellantonio, Emma Farrel, Maddy Levy, Allie Rosadino, Ashley Tartaglia, and Sammy Trott (manager) will be introduced before their final regular season home game.
