Farrel Ties CHS Career Record In Loss At Greenwich, Cross Country Takes Sixth At Wickham

Cheshire High School field hockey (10-2) lost 2-1 at Greenwich (9-1) to end an eight-game win streak. Freshman Paige Mautner scored 57 seconds into the game for Greenwich, who led 1-0 at halftime. With 17:06 remaining, junior Meghan Collins added the second goal for Greenwich.
Cheshire scored with 3:58 left. By converting a penalty stroke, senior Emma Farrel tied the school career point mark (113) of Wendi Kemp from 1978-81. Farrel has 68 goals and 45 assists in her career.
Senior Maddy Levy had 13 saves in the loss.
CHS visits North Haven (0-8-1-1) on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Cross Country (Boys, 163; Girls, 222)
In Manchester, Cheshire each earned sixth place in their respective races of the Wickham Park Invite. The Lady Rams, paced by junior Natalie Wickenheisser (16th, 20:51), participated in the seeded race. Junior Liz Cunningham (28th, 21:36), seniors Erin Strahley (29th, 21:38), Kelley Jefferis (74th, 22:44), Kimmi Grove (80th, 22:51), and freshman Camille Lewis (114th, 23:45) also competed.
The boys participated in the championship race. Junior Russell Adam (18th, 17:01), along with seniors Lucas Marcouiller (23rd, 17:10) and Trey Phillips (29th, 17:22), were the top three finishers. Juniors Mark Fusco (44th, 17:49) and Steve Caldwell (49th, 17:55), sophomore Jordan Kolpak (50th, 17:55), and senior Ben Kaplan (56th, 18:02) finished after them.
The Southern Connecticut Conference Championship is next Thursday at Hammonasset State Park. Varsity girls run at 1:40 p.m. Boys race at 3 p.m.
