Cheshire Girls' Volleyball, Swim And Dive Keep Records Perfect

Cheshire High School girls' volleyball (14-0, 6-0 in Housatonic Division) stayed unbeaten on Friday, sweeping host Lyman Hall (8-5, 1-4) 3-0 for the second time. Set scores: 25-15, 25-16, 25-14. Cheshire had personal-high totals from senior Eva Whalen (14 kills, four blocks) and junior Jill Howard (11 blocks, eight kills).
CHS has clinched at least a piece of a sixth straight division crown (Housatonic record). They can win it out on Monday when they host Sheehan (8-6, 1-4) at 6:30 p.m. Cheshire swept the Titans on Sept. 25.
Girls' Swim And Dive (7-0)
Cheshire beat Hand (3-3) 99-78. Senior Laura Mongillo (500-yard freestyle, 5:33.31), junior Lindsay Smalec (100-yard backstroke, 1:05.93), and freshman Lily Kurtz (100-yard butterfly, 1:06.09) won individually and teamed with junior Ellie Senft to win the 200-yard medley (1:58.42). CHS also collected wins from seniors Denise Costello (50-yard freestyle, 27.42) and Theresa Cashore (diving, 146.4), along with junior Taylor Plumley (100-yard freestyle, 58.93) and freshman Danielle Dietrich (200-yard individual medley, 2:31.33).
Cheshire hosts Branford on Tuesday at Hamden Hall. Start time is 7 p.m.
Girls' Soccer (9-3, 6-1)
The Lady Rams earned their fifth straight win, beating Amity (7-2-3, 4-1-1) 1-0. The win split the series after Amity won 5-0 on Sept. 25. With 1:23 left in the first half, junior Hannah Bonitz scored the lone goal. She was assisted by senior Leah Chamberlin. It was Bonitz's second game-winner. Freshman Zoe Riccio recorded nine saves.
The Lady Rams host Daniel Hand on Tuesday at 6 p.m. They lost 3-1 on Sept. 28.
Boys' Soccer (3-8-1, 2-4)
For the second time, Cheshire lost 2-1 against host Guilford. Junior Zach Winch scored for the Rams. Senior Joe Phillips had the assist.
The Rams visit Sheehan (4-3-3, 1-3-1) on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

The Lady Rams carry a eight-game win streak into Saturday at Greenwich (8-1). Start time is 1 p.m.
Cross Country
Cheshire boys and girls run in the championship races of the Wickham Park Invite in Manchester.
